The purpose of the role is to develop and maintain system architectures and associated technical interface definitions for the underground as part of the Sub-Surface Upgrade Programme. These architectures and the defined technical interfaces are an essential tool to ensure that at all times during the upgrade the Sub-Surface Railway operational configuration will satisfy all functional, performance and safety requirements and they will provide the engineering design against which the engineering safety analysis and acceptance is conducted. Objectives for the SUP system architectures are to provide:
A common representation of the railway sub-systems that the SUP is providing and how they relate to each other, to their sub-systems and to the overall SSL railway.Traceability from the functional, operational and structural design of the sub-systems to their source requirements.A definition of the changes in architectures as the railway migrates from initial to final state.Support for safety, design, change management, operational analysis, migration, V&V and compliance activities.Optimisation of system design.
A definition of the scope for the procurement of the Signalling and Service Control System.A structure for the Systems Requirements to be placed on the Signalling and Service Control System supplier.A completeness check for interfaces and requirements allocation.Compliance evidence. To achieve these objectives the role is to collect and analyse information from multiple sources and represent this graphically, in text form and as data tables as appropriate. The analysis of this information should identify inconsistencies, gaps, ambiguities, conflicts or other issues that need to be resolved to accurately and completely represent the architecture of the railway. This role shall work closely with domain experts across engineering and operations to elicit information and obtain review feedback to improve the quality of the system architecture and interface products
